Expanding Cabin John bridge might be a decent idea but it is NOT the appropriate solution for the problem.<br /><br />The better way to handle Beltway/Cabin John would be to get all the Frederick traffic off it, as well as much of MoCo's as well. To do THAT you extend I-370/ICC westward to a new bridge and link it with VA Rt 28. To placate the gentlemen farmers in western MoCo, this road would be no-entry/no-exit between the I-270/370 junction and the bridge. That means no ribbon-like development along the road (the main criticism).<br /><br />A new Potomac crossing is well-justified on national-security grounds. We all remember the almost-disaster with the gasoline tanker a few months ago - if that had blown up then the bridge would be out of action and the whole Washington area would be gridlocked. It doesn't take a very smart terrorist to recognize this as a very vulnerable, critical place.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
