Two tower cranes erected in Rockville Town Center

There are now two tower cranes in Rockville Town Center. Here are some views from Duball, LLC's Phase II of their Rockville Town Center development. Located off E. Middle Lane on what was the last remaining surface parking lot in front of the Regal Cinemas Rockville, the site will be home to a 400-unit apartment building, with 150 of those to be set aside for senior housing operated by development partner Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission. The building will also include 20000 SF of ground floor retail/restaurant space.

Rockville construction update: Main Street (Photos)

Here's a look at the progress on the Main Street apartments, a mixed-income residential building being constructed at 50 Monroe Place. This used to be the site of the IBM building. When completed, 25% of the units here will be set aside for the disabled, and 75% will be affordable.

Rockville construction update: Duball Town Center Phase II (Photos)

Excavation has begun at the site of Duball, LLC's Rockville Town Center Phase II project. Located off E. Middle Lane on the last remaining surface parking lot in front of the Regal Cinemas Rockville, the property will be home to a 400-unit apartment building, with 150 of those to be set aside for senior housing operated by development partner Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission. The building will also include 20000 SF of ground floor retail/restaurant space. Based on the results of Duball's Phase I project across Helen Heneghan Way, expect high-quality architecture when this delivers in 2021.

Rockville construction update: Phase II of Rockville Town Center (Photos)

Groundbreaking for the new Duball, LLC development atop land that formerly housed the last half of Rockville Town Center's largest parking lot took place April 29. You can see the tent that was used for the ceremony in many of the photos here. The 400-unit apartment building will have 150 units set aside as affordable housing for seniors. Delivery of the 18-story tower is expected in 2021. Duball was also the developer of the Cambria Suites hotel and Upton apartments across the street.

Rockville construction update: The Metropolitan at Rockville Town Center (Photos)

This is the final construction update on Kettler's Metropolitan at Rockville Town Center apartments. Not only is the project finished, but the first residents have moved in. Some of the features new in these photos include the permanent signage, a public art installation, and the landscaped grounds outside the building.

Rockville construction update: Brightview West End (Photos)

Here's an update on the other major project in Phase II of Rockville Town Center, the Brightview West End assisted living apartment building. Brightview is located at 285 N. Washington Street, and includes 195 units of independent and assisted living, 6568 SF of ground floor retail, dining facilities and a fitness center, a landscaped courtyard, and a "therapeutic" roof garden.

Alzheimer's care is also be a specialty at this residential building. Services include transportation to medical centers, museums and galleries, and local events.

A movie theater, library and "upscale pub with billiards and TV" round out the leisure options. It looks like there is a coffee shop in the building, as well. I have to say it looks quite nice compared to previous generations of such facilities, and certainly gives the residents a bit more energy being downtown.

Rockville construction update: Metropolitan at Rockville Town Center (Photos)

Kettler's Metropolitan at Rockville Town Center mixed-use residential building is looking more finished by the day. Here are some chronological images of the progress over the last month. The building, located at 255 N. Washington Street, has been expected to be delivered before the end of the year. Are those many individual entries along N. Washington Street the first "poor doors" to be implemented in Rockville?
