The Block, the Asian food hall at 967 Rose Avenue at Pike & Rose, has closed. Reduced hours and departing tenants had already reduced business at the venue. The closure was first reported by The MoCo Show. In March, Store Reporter noted that property owner Federal Realty had removed The Block from its leasing map. Vendors told MoCo360 that the food hall might close at the end of the month.
Finally! This place was bad from the get go, outrageous drink prices, weird food combos, and constant violations of liquor and food regulations. Won't be missed, except by the post-teen bunch that has to find a new hangout.

ReplyDeleteI remember years ago reading an annual report on business failures from the US Labor Dept. It said the highest number of failures per year were restaurants. Tough business. Sad, as someone put their life's blood into this restaurant.
ReplyDeleteI will be the first to say it, but there is a glut of Asian theme dining options on Rockville Pike corridor. There seem to be nothing else but Asian restaurants opening up and many are empty because so many options. How many times per week or per month can you eat out Asian food without getting burned out?
ReplyDeleteDoesn’t matter if I’m eating out. I eat Asian food DAILY because the strengths and expertise of my cooking skills are predominantly in this cuisine. I don’t get burned out eating “Asian food” because to me it’s just FOOD. Maybe open your eyes a little and realize that restaurants close not because of its ethnic offerings or over representation in the area, but because of factors like service, pricing, experience, and overall management? Don’t tell me Miller Ale House closed because there was a glut of pub/American restaurants on Rockville Pike.
DeleteI'm actually glad it's gone. Service was terrible there and the place attracted the worst kind of clientele at night. That location would make an amazing location for a Mexican restaurant or an upscale place like Clydes or one Chef Black's restaurants.
ReplyDeleteThe size of the space certainly gives Federal Realty many options - a large bar or restaurant, some kind of entertainment business, or subdivide into smaller spaces.
