Rockville police release description of suspect in armed robbery of postal worker

Rockville City police have released a description of the suspect in the August 3, 2026 armed robbery of a United States Postal Service mail carrier in the King Farm neighborhood. They have also confirmed that the robber indeed allegedly was after a key that opens multiple mailboxes, the frequent target in robberies of postal employees in recent years. Police say the suspect fled the scene in the 1100 block of Elmcroft Boulevard at 3:45 PM in a blue 4-door sedan.

The suspect is described by police as a Black male with a "light complexion," and a skinny build. He is approximately 5’10" in height, and was wearing dark blue clothing. If you have any information about the identity or location of this suspect, call police at 240-314-8900.

Postal worker robbed at gunpoint in Rockville

Rockville City police responded to a report of an armed robbery in the King Farm neighborhood yesterday afternoon, August 3, 2026. The victim was a United States Postal Service employee delivering mail. At least one suspect wielding a firearm confronted the postal worker outside of a townhome in the 1100 block of Elmcroft Boulevard at 3:40 PM Monday. Montgomery County police say the worker was robbed of unspecified property. 

Police have not released a description of the suspect(s) as of this writing. Typically, criminals robbing postal workers are attempting to obtain the USPS arrow key they carry. These are master keys that unlock all mailboxes within a particular area. Thieves then use the key to obtain checks from mailboxes that they can wash, and cash in their name for an inflated amount. 

Squatter found inside vacant apartment in Rockville

A man arriving to what he expected would be a night of construction work at an apartment in Rockville discovered something - or someone - else. Entering the vacant apartment unit in the 100 block of Talbott Street at 6:46 PM Saturday night, he was startled to find a squatter inside. The squatter ran out of the apartment, and fled the complex, Montgomery County police say. 

Rockville City police officers, who responded to the scene, found no preliminary indication that anything had been removed from the unit. A description of the squatter was not released.

Armed carjacking in Rockville

Rockville City police responded to a report of an armed carjacking Monday night, July 27, 2026. It took place in the 500 block of Hungerford Drive (MD 355) at 10:00 PM. A suspect displayed a handgun to a driver, and ordered the driver out of the vehicle. The suspect then drove away in the stolen vehicle. Police have not released a description of the suspect or of the stolen vehicle as of this writing.

Vandals damage apartments in Rockville

Rockville City police report that two suspects allegedly caused damage to multiple apartments in the Rockville Town Center area on July 22, 2026. Between 5:00 and 6:00 PM that evening, police say, the suspects vandalized a water valve at a commercial property in the 100 block of Gibbs Street. As a result of the damage to the valve, multiple apartments in the building suffered water damage. The incident was reported to police the following day.

"Foreign intelligence officials" extort multiple victims in Rockville

Scammers posing as foreign intelligence officials extorted funds from multiple victims in Rockville over the last two months. According to Rockville City police, the fake spies convinced several people to transfer Bitcoin into unknown accounts between June 18 and July 13, 2026. Maryland electric bills have soared to record heights, thanks to elected officials forcing the closure of 8 power plants statewide, and implementing clean power mandates. Now we're seeing a new sign of growing desperation in Montgomery County. Rockville City police recently responded to a report of a solar panel having been wrenched off of a home in the 1700 block of Henry Road in the Rockcrest neighborhood on July 11, 2026. Police believe the solar panel was spirited away sometime between 11:44 PM the night before, and 1:23 AM on July 11. No description of the suspect(s) has been released.

Double dog attack injures victim in Rockville

Rockville City police are investigating an animal bite incident that took place on July 8, 2026. The victim was in the 800 block of Nelson Street at 8:33 PM when they were attacked by two dogs. Both canines were described by the victim as possibly having been pit bulls. They attacked without provocation, the victim told police. The alleged owner of the dogs refused to provide identification, and fled the scene with the animals, police say. Following the attack, the victim sought medical treatment for their injuries.

Man shouts antisemitic statements outside synagogue in Rockville

Police responded to a hate speech incident outside a synagogue in Rockville Wednesday afternoon, July 8, 2026. According to Montgomery County police, a man shouted antisemitic statements at a person standing outside of Tikvat Israel Congregation at 2200 Baltimore Road at 4:44 PM Wednesday. He then walked away.

Man vandalizes multiple A/C units during heat wave in Rockville

Rockville City police are looking for a man who vandalized multiple air-conditioning units early yesterday morning, July 6, 2026. According to police, the man damaged at least six A/C units in the 600 block of Mount Vernon Place around 2:00 AM Monday morning. Police describe the suspect as Black male with a stocky build, and shoulder-length dreadlocks. He was wearing white shorts and a dark-colored shirt. Strong-arm carjacking in Rockville - UPDATED

UPDATE - 5:32 PM, July 7, 2026: Rockville City police have indentified the vehicle stolen as a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan.

Rockville City police responded to a report of a strong-arm carjacking in the Croyden Park area early on the morning of July 4, 2026. The assault and robbery occurred in the 700 block of Mapleton Road at 1:00 AM Saturday. Police were dispatched to the scene 33 minutes later.

Rockville woman facing charges after exposing herself to neighbor's surveillance camera

A Rockville woman is facing charges after allegedly putting on a show for a neighbor's surveillance camera. According to Rockville City police, the woman made "lewd gestures" and exposed herself in front of the camera in the 200 block of Congressional Lane on June 24, 2026. Police say they have identified the woman, and that charges against her are forthcoming.

Purse snatching at Rockville Metro station

Rockville City police responded to a report of a purse snatching at the Rockville Metro station at 251 Hungerford Drive early yesterday morning, June 27, 2026. The theft was reported at the station at 12:30 AM Saturday. It took place in the pedestrian tunnel. 

Armed robbery at Red Roof Inn in Rockville

Rockville City police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Red Roof Inn at 16001 Shady Grove Road last Friday night, June 12, 2026. According to police, a suspect approached the front desk of the hotel at 8:46 PM, and drew a handgun. The suspect demanded the front desk clerk hand over cash. When the clerk informed the suspect that there was no cash to hand over, the suspect ran away. No description of the suspect has been released as of this writing.

Assault reported at school in Rockville

Rockville City police were called to a school yesterday afternoon, June 10, 2026, after someone reported having been assaulted there. The assault was reported at a school in the 600 block of Great Falls Road at 1:50 PM Wednesday. Julius West Middle School is located at 651 Great Falls Road.

Lunchtime assault at Richard Montgomery HS in Rockville

Rockville City police were called to Richard Montgomery High School on Friday, June 5, 2026, after someone reported having been assaulted there. A 2nd-degree assault was reported on-campus at 12:30 PM Friday. An individual was also accused of weapon possession in the same incident.

Aggravated assault with firearm in Rockville

Rockville City police responded to a report of an aggravated assault in the Burgundy Estates area early Saturday morning, May 30, 2026. The assault was reported along the street in the 900 block of Baltimore Road at 1:47 AM. A firearm was employed in the assault.

AI voice employed in kidnapping hoax in Rockville

Scammers employed an artificial intelligence-generated voice in an attempt to trick a Rockville resident into believing a family member had been kidnapped, Rockville City police allege. The fake relative called the victim in the 300 block of Hungerford Drive several times on May 21, 2026. A scammer, using the AI-generated voice of the family member, stated she had been kidnapped and directed the victim to pay an unspecified ransom amount. Police did not specify if the ruse was successful, or if any money changed hands.

Facebook Marketplace seller turns home invader in Rockville

A planned Facebook Marketplace transaction turned scary fast in Rockville on May 20, 2026. According to Rockville City police, a seller had arranged online to bring items to the victim's residence for purchase. When the seller arrived at the victim's home in the 1300 block of Piccard Drive at 8:00 PM, they attempted to use physical force to enter the residence, causing property damage in the process. After failing to gain access, the seller fled.

Police have not released a description of the seller as of this writing. But this is a good reminder that the Rockville City police offer the use of their police station parking lot for such transactions. The parking lot is located at 2 W. Montgomery Avenue, is open 24 hours and seven days a week, is well-lit, and is monitored by constant video surveillance. When a shady character finds they are pulling up outside a police station, shenanigans such as the victim experienced in this case are unlikely to unfold.

Customer assaulted at grocery store in Rockville

Rockville City police responded to a report of an assault at a grocery store early yesterday afternoon, May 25, 2026. The assault took place shortly after 12:30 PM at the Aldi supermarket at 1501 Rockville Pike at the Congressional North shopping center. While shopping, an adult male customer was struck in the face by an unknown individual, leaving him with minor lacerations. The suspect was ordered to leave the store by management, and left the scene before officers arrived.

The suspect is described as a tanned White male approximately 50-60 years of age, bald, and 5'8" in height. If you have any information about this incident, call police at 240.314.8900.
