Golden Samovar closed in Rockville after flood

Golden Samovar is closed at Rockville Town Square. The restaurant says the closure is due to repeated flooding of its space from the apartments located upstairs, and that it will not reopen "until the issue is resolved."

However, the restaurant's website is currently down, as well. I know there is a basis in truth for the flooding explanation, because the restaurant indeed closed temporarily in late May, due to water from the apartments upstairs. They then reopened.

We will have to stay tuned here. It would be truly sad to lose Golden Samovar, as we are in great need of Russian and Eastern European restaurants in Montgomery County.

Samovar opens at Rockville Town Square

Samovar has finally opened at 201 N. Washington Street in Rockville Town Square. They are celebrating tonight starting at 8:00 PM with an appearance by belly dancer Nimeera, who can be seen wielding a scimitar in the dining room in videos on their new Facebook page. I've been searching Facebook for Samovar for about a year, so it was a bit surreal to actually get a result last night.

Samovar features Russian and Central Asian cuisine. You can check out the menu online. The owner won several National USSR awards for his cooking in the former Soviet Union - it doesn't get any more legit than that.

Samovar is hiring at Rockville Town Square

I can't wait for the first Russian restaurant to open in Montgomery County. Samovar at Rockville Town Square is now hiring. The interior remains top secret, as the window coverings have been replaced with drawn curtains. How many days until a beef stroganoff or borscht will be on my plate?

Signage installed at Samovar at Rockville Town Square (Photos)

Samovar is the most intriguing addition coming to Rockville Town Square, as Russian cuisine is virtuallly non-existent in Montgomery County. The restaurant will also incorporate dishes from Central Asia into its menu. While the interior build-out has been underway for several weeks, all that is visible from the outside are the light fixtures, as you can see in the photo below.

There is no website, Facebook, or Twitter for the restaurant, which simply adds to the mystique, but it appears the opening is close.

Samovar construction update at Rockville Town Square (Photos)

It's hard to pick one of the three new restaurants opening at Rockville Town Square over the others - Finnegan's Wake and Mellow Mushroom. But Samovar is arguably the most intriguing in terms of cuisine, as Russian restaurants are - sadly - nonexistent in these parts. Their summer opening has been delayed this year, but there are finally some signs that the project is moving forward at the corner of E. Middle Lane and N. Washington Street.

A city construction permit is now on display, to allow the build-out of Samovar's interior in the former Cosi space. And the restaurant has also applied for its liquor license.

Samovar to bring Russian cuisine to Rockville; update on Miso Café

The latest dining addition to Rockville Town Square will be Samovar, a 3,353 SF restaurant featuring the cuisine of Russia with Eastern European and Central Asian accents. Father-daughter owners Solijon Nasimov and Ika Nasimova have over 25 years of experience in the industry, with restaurants in New York, Colorado, and their home country of Tajikistan. This is their first DC-area venture. they are also the caterer for the Russian Trade and Cultural Missions and Tajikistan Embassy in the District.

Samovar will feature live music on weekends, and is expected to open this July at 201 N. Washington Street.

Meanwhile, an update on my previous report this week on Miso Café. It turns out Miso will be a Korean fusion restaurant, not Japanese as I assumed from the name. The owners, who have an existing outpost in Annandale, hope to open this summer at Rockville Town Square.
