Rockville construction update: Burger King - Shady Grove Road (Photos)

Renovation of the Burger King at 16004 Shady Grove Road on the Rockville-Gaithersburg border continues. It's really almost the construction of a totally new building, which is why the restaurant is closed during the project. Customers are being directed to the "Silver Spring" and Germantown Burger King locations. Don't go to bed before the King!

  1. This project reminds me of the construction of the Miller's Alehouse on Rockville Pike, which was formerly Hooters. The Hooters building was demolished down to the foundation, yet label as a renovation project. That too was a real head scratcher.

    1. I imagine that there is probably some legal loophole of some sort that it qualifies as a renovation and gets to follow different rules if they leave some of the old building in place. Sheetz tends to do that when they rebuild stores as well, leaving the back wall in place and demolishing everything else, and it gets classified as a renovation rather than new construction.

  2. That BK was really nice years ago, had the sofas, recliners, huge play area for kids, huge TVs and a fireplace, but then the riffraff from the motel across the street started hanging out there, heroin in the bathroom, smelly unclean people passed out/nodding off, then the rats were all over the kids play area when it was closed in the evening, you could stand there and watch them running around all night long. It's a shame because that area has changed so much and you can tell the owner tried to make it into a unique and upscale BK, even had a sports memorabilia showcase, but the clientele has gone down the tubes the past 10 years.
