Rockville police investigating hate crime vandalism incident targeting Jewish residence


Rockville City police are investigating what appears to be a hate-inspired act of property damage in an area of the city with a significant Jewish population. According to police, a suspect tore a mezuzah doorpost from a resident's doorframe in the 200 block of Congressional Lane. A mezuzah doorpost is a decorative case containing a scroll with verses from the Torah, and is affixed to the right The vandalism took place sometime between 5:00 AM on November 5, 2023 and 2:30 PM on November 6, 2023.

If you have any information about this incident, or if you believe you have been a victim of a hate crime in the City of Rockville, you are asked to call 240-314-8900. If it is an emergency, call 911. In a statement released by the Rockville City police, victims are advised to not clean up or destroy any evidence before police can examine the crime scene, nor to attempt to confront the perpetrators of the crime yourself. There are also services available to victims of hate crimes, which victims can request when phoning police to report incidents.
