Cyclist and pedestrian clash on sidewalk in Rockville

A bicyclist and a pedestrian entered into a standoff that ended in an assault on a sidewalk in Rockville on August 19, 2025. Rockville City police say the two individuals encountered each other on a sidewalk in the 12500 block of Parklawn Drive at 3:37 PM. They allegedly proceeded to argue about which of them had the right-of-way on the sidewalk. The pedestrian then blocked the cyclist's path forward, police say, and kicked one of the bicycle's tires. In response, the cyclist allegedly knocked away the pedestrian's phone, which was damaged when it landed on the ground.

  2. Follow the rules of the road,
    - Pedestrians and bicyclists, stay to the right and pass to the left
    - oncoming, stay to the right
    - passing, bicycles dingle your bell and loudly say "to your left" in time for pedestrian to move further to right; if you have oncoming traffic, slow down and wait until coast is clear
    - pedestrians move to the right quickly
    HOW HARD IS THIS?

    1. Bicycles don’t belong on sideWALKS. Period. MoCo and Rockville dumped plenty of money making bike lanes and inconveniencing drivers (see old geogetown rd). The entitled cyclist who was concerned about their safety from cars on the road wasn’t concerned about the safety of the pedestrians on the sidewalk and should pay for a new phone.

  3. Bicycles do not belong on the sidewalk. The pedestrian has the right-of-way. Bicyclists are rude and have no place on the road or on the sidewalk as they can not go the psoted speed like cars and they think that they are special on the sidewalk. Bestthing to do would be to eliminate bikes from sidewalks and any and all roads and only allow them on neighborhood side streets.

    1. Bicyclists need to use the sidewalk because Maryland is giving drivers licenses to Illegal immigrants who are not the best drivers, many cannot even read English street signs, this makes it extremely dangerous for Bicyclists to be in the street.

  4. Liked your comments about cyclists on sidewalks, however banning bikes from streets is not lawful. Cars are always in a hurry and streets and highways have become race tracks.
