Rockville City police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault at a grocery store this past Saturday afternoon, August 29, 2026. The assault was reported at a store in the 200 block of N. Washington Street in Rockville Town Center at 3:01 PM Saturday. That is the new Trader Joe's store at The Square at Rockville.

ReplyDeleteTwo nights ago I was sitting at a bus bench on my street where my apartments are,a guy came up to the bus stop acting slightly suspicious, I was looking at internet on my phone, after a few minutes I noticed the guy start to walk towards me and he was saying something about my phone, I immediately jumped up and got on the other side of the bench putting something between us, and I asked him if I needed to call the police on him,that stopped him,he seemed confused and not sure what to do,I started walking away while watching him to see what he was doing. I went and told the security in my complex. You have to be on guard and alert to your surroundings at all times, being on the internet on my phone while he was around was a bad idea, I'm pretty sure he was going to try and grab my phone. This was 9:00 at night. Always put distance between yourself and a potential threat, but be prepared.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to know how crime in the City of Rockville compares to that in North Bethesda and Bethesda. The latter probably have more people around, due to the many businesses and restaurants located there. Then again, more businesses would mean more potential targets. [I realize this sounds very bleak.]
ReplyDeleteThe City of Rockville sometimes seems like a thriving community. Festivals and the farmers' market are well attended. The library is beautiful, and people do visit the little "square". However, sometimes there are very few people on the street.
People do loiter at the Metro station, though most people there are just waiting for a bus. I wonder about the safety of the walk from the Metro.
I'm very hopeful the request to build apartments at the corner of 355 and Middle Lane is finally approved and moves forward. Bringing more families and individuals to the community *might* encourage more businesses to move here....
And I can't spend my time worrying about crime.

You don't really have to spend your time worrying about crime,but you do need to realize that you are a potential target when you're in the areas you just mentioned. Being alert to your surroundings is the key to being safer, having a plan if someone confronts you is good also.
DeleteRockville, North Bethesda, and Bethesda are all really safe. Look at the crime statistics and compare with other places and suburbs. i check this site periodically for masochism reasons but crime is truly quite rare here: especially in comparison to DC or Prince Georges County. Of course, however, you should stay vigilant. I disagree with the reply to your comment that you are a potential target. Bad experiences can happen and you should be prepared, but the world is a big place and you shouldn't be afraid to live life.

DeleteYes, I read the article. The grocery store is in my neighborhood. And I wonder whether other people think the City of Rockville is relatively safe.
DeleteYesterday dollar tree in Montgomery Village had a closed until further notice on the front door, and the doors were locked, later on I was in Dollar Tree in Gaithersburg and mentioned it to the manager, he said it is because of all the stealing from the store. The Gaithersburg store has a much worse theft problem though.
