Rockville police identify suspect in stabbing


Rockville City police are seeking the public's help in locating a suspect in the July 20, 2024 stabbing of four people. Detectives have identified Ricky Dyson of Rockville as the suspect, and have obtained a warrant for his arrest. Dyson is facing charges of 1st-degree assault, 2nd-degree assault, and reckless endangerment. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Dyson is asked to call police at 240-314-8900 or 911.

4 wounded in Rockville stabbing


Four people were wounded in a stabbing in Rockville last night. Rockville City police responded to a report of an assault near the intersection of Dawson Avenue and Upton Street at 9:40 PM. Officers arriving at the scene encountered a large crowd of people, and noticed trails of blood on the ground. Witnesses reported that a stabbing had taken place. Officers attempted to locate the victims at the scene, but found no one. At least one K-9 unit was called in to assist.

However, a short time later, four victims suffering from stab wounds arrived in the Emergency Department at a local hospital. Police say none of the wounds were life-threatening. Detectives have identified a person of interest in the assault, and are attempting to locate that person for questioning.

Police called after assault at Rockville grocery store


Rockville City police were called to a grocery store at the King Farm Village Center, after an individual was allegedly assaulted there Saturday night, July 13, 2024. The assault was reported at the Safeway store at 403 Redland Boulevard at 9:05 PM. An individual was also accused of shoplifting in the same incident.

Assault at Rockville apartment building


Rockville City police were called to investigate an assault at an apartment building on Saturday night, July 13, 2024. The assault was reported in the 500 block of Monroe Street at 8:20 PM. It took place in the parking lot of the apartments.

Strong-arm robbery at Rockville apartment complex


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a strong-arm robbery in the Twinbrook area of Rockville on Thursday, July 12, 2024. The robbery was reported at 4:30 AM in the 13200 block of Twinbrook Parkway. It occurred at an apartment building on that block, which is near Veirs Mill Road.

Assault at Shady Grove Metro station


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault at the Shady Grove Metro station early Sunday morning, July 7, 2024. The assault was reported at the station at 3:52 AM Sunday. No trains operate at that hour on Sunday. Police were called to the parking lot of the station, which is located in the 15900 block of Somerville Drive in Derwood, to meet the victim of the assault.

Assault at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda Monday night, July 1, 2024. The assault was reported at the mall at 8:40 PM Monday. 

This is the eighth assault reported at the popular retail center this year, as violent crime at the mall continues to outpace the totals of last year. The property had managed to go assault-free since April 14 - until Monday. 

By contrast, only five assaults were reported at the mall in all of 2023. Montgomery Mall is currently on pace to triple last year's total.

Several of this year's assaults have taken place as shoplifters attempted to flee the mall with stolen merchandise, including one on March 5 that came to light last month when Montgomery County police released a photo of the suspect whom they alleged assaulted a Macy's employee.

Police seek suspects in Park Potomac assault


Montgomery County police are seeking the public's help in identifying and located multiple suspects in the June 22, 2024 aggravated assault at the Park Potomac development. Police say that as many as four suspects ganged up on the two adult victims around 4:10 PM that afternoon, in the 12500 block of Park Potomac Avenue. The suspects displayed unspecified weapons, and assaulted both victims.

Police describe the suspects as three or four Black females in their late teens. If you have any information about the suspects or this incident, you are asked to call police at (301) 279-8000.

Rockville City police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault on Rockville Pike this past Wednesday, June 26, 2024. The assault was reported at an auto dealership in the 800 block of Rockville Pike at 12:00 PM. There are two dealerships located on that block.

Montgomery County police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault in Derwood Saturday afternoon, June 22, 2024. The assault was reported in a commercial parking lot in the 17500 block of Redland Road at 4:52 PM. That is a busy commercial area near the intersection with Muncaster Mill Road.

Man wounded in Rockville shooting


Rockville City police responded to a report of a shooting around 8:30 PM last night, June 20, 2024, near the intersection of E. Argyle Street and Blandford Street. Officers arriving at the scene found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. They provided first aid until an ambulance transported the victim to a local hospital. Police say he is currently in stable condition.

Rockville school principal charged with assaulting student


Rockville City police have arrested the principal of Ritchie Park Elementary School at 1514 Dunster Road for allegedly assaulting a student in the building. The department jointly investigated the accusation with Montgomery County police detectives after the assault was reported to the RCPD by a staff member at the school on February 9, 2024. Principal Andrew Winter, 54, turned himself into police at the Montgomery County jail central processing unit on June 3, after a warrant was issued for his arrest by Judge Roger Zepeda that day. 

According to court records, Winter has been charged with misdemeanor 2nd-degree assault. He posted $1500 bond on June 4. A trial has been scheduled for July 18, 2024 at 8:30 AM in Montgomery County District Court in Rockville. Winter has led Ritchie Park ES since his appointment in May 2020. WTOP reports that Winter is accused of stomping on a student's foot during a disciplinary interaction that was allegedly captured on video, and has been on leave since the incident was first reported.

Rockville City police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault at a grocery store Wednesday afternoon, June 5, 2024. The assault was reported at the Safeway store at 403 Redland Boulevard at the King Farm Village Center at 3:30 PM. At least one individual was also accused of trespassing in the incident.

Rockville City police responded to a report of a strong-arm robbery in the Rockville Town Center area on Friday, May 31, 2024. The robbery was reported at a restaurant in the 100 block of E. Montgomery Avenue at 4:07 PM. There are at least four restaurants on that block.

Rockville police searching for suspect in stabbing


Rockville City police are seeking the public's help in identifying and locating a suspect in the May 10, 2024 stabbing of a customer at a business in the Rockville Town Center area. The male suspect "suddenly stabbed a visitor to a business" in the 300 block of N. Washington Street at 5:13 PM, police allege. Police describe the suspect as a thin Black male, somewhere between 20 and 35 years of age, with "a dark complexion." He was wearing a dark brown or camouflage puffy jacket, dark pants, and a black hat. If you have any information on this suspect or incident, you are asked to call police at 240-314-8900.

Rockville City police were called to a school after an aggravated assault was reported there early Friday afternoon, May 17, 2024. The assault was reported at a school in the 600 block of Great Falls Road at 1:45 PM Friday. Julius West Middle School is located at 651 Great Falls Road.

Robbery, assault at Marshalls in Rockville


Montgomery County police were called to the Marshalls department store at 12051 Rockville Pike at Montrose Crossing at 5:05 PM on May 8, 2024. A male suspect entered the store, assaulted a Marshalls employee, and fled with an undisclosed amount of merchandise. Police describe the suspect only as a Black male of unknown age. Women assaulted by suspect shouting "You support genocide!" in Rockville


A female suspect allegedly confronted two women on Rockville Pike, and shouted, "You support genocide!" She then splashed one of the victims with a red drink, Rockville City police said. Police have not yet identified the victims as Jewish, but stated that they were "wearing jewelry with ethno-religious iconography" at the time of the assault. The alleged assault took place in the 1600 block of Rockville Pike at 1:30 PM on April 28, 2024, and was reported to police on May 7.

There is a significant Jewish community living in the vicinity of that block of Rockville Pike, and this is not the first time an incident that could be classified as a hate crime has been committed in that area since the Hamas attack on Israel last October 7, and the launch of the ensuing war in Gaza. Police describe the suspect in this April 28 incident as a "heavy-set" White female with glasses, short pink wavy hair, and black-and-white tattoos.

Assault in Rockville Town Center area




Rockville City police responded to a report of an aggravated assault in the Rockville Town Center area late Friday afternoon, May 10, 2024. Officers were called to the 300 block of N. Washington Street at 5:13 PM Friday. A weapon other than a firearm was utilized in the assault.
