Double dog attack injures victim in Rockville


Rockville City police are investigating an animal bite incident that took place on July 8, 2026. The victim was in the 800 block of Nelson Street at 8:33 PM when they were attacked by two dogs. Both canines were described by the victim as possibly having been pit bulls. They attacked without provocation, the victim told police. The alleged owner of the dogs refused to provide identification, and fled the scene with the animals, police say. Following the attack, the victim sought medical treatment for their injuries.

Strong-arm carjacking in Rockville - UPDATED


UPDATE - 5:32 PM, July 7, 2026: Rockville City police have indentified the vehicle stolen as a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan.

Rockville City police responded to a report of a strong-arm carjacking in the Croyden Park area early on the morning of July 4, 2026. The assault and robbery occurred in the 700 block of Mapleton Road at 1:00 AM Saturday. Police were dispatched to the scene 33 minutes later.

Second assault in 8 days at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault at Westfield Montgomery Mall Sunday night, June 28, 2026. The assault was reported at 7:51 PM. This was the second assault to take place at the retail center in eight days, with the last having occurred on June 20. Six assaults have been reported at the mall so far this year, a pace on par with last year's grand total of twelve. 2024 saw eleven assaults, and 2022 brought twelve. A low of five assaults was recorded in 2023, when the police department opened a "resource room" at the mall.

Armed robbery at ATM in Rockville


Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed robbery at an ATM machine in Rockville early last Friday afternoon, June 26, 2026. The robbery was reported at an ATM in the 12200 block of Rockville Pike at 1:01 PM Friday. An adult male suspect tried to grab the victim's wallet in front of the ATM, and threatened to shoot the victim if they did not let go of it. But the victim was able to not only hold onto their wallet, but overpowered the suspect and pinned him until officers could arrive. The suspect was taken into custody.

Assault at bus stop in Derwood


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault at a bus stop in Derwood late yesterday afternoon, June 26, 2026. The assault was reported at 5:45 PM. It took place at a bus stop in the 15900 block of Somerville Drive. There are bus stops on that block of Somerville, but that block can also refer to the bus stops within the adjacent Shady Grove Metro station, as well.

Police respond to assault at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda this past Saturday night, June 20, 2026. The assault was reported at the mall at 8:21 PM Saturday. This was the fifth assault recorded at the popular retail center so far this year. Last year saw a total of 12 assaults reported at the property. County police officers were visibly on patrol inside the mall this past weekend.

Hugging thief strikes in Rockville


A thief used a hug as a distraction in Rockville this past Saturday afternoon, June 20, 2026. According to Montgomery County police, the suspect targeted a female victim in the 700 block of Hungerford Drive at 3:05 PM Saturday. The suspect hugged the victim, and allegedly removed several pieces of jewelry she was wearing during the embrace, before fleeing in a getaway vehicle. Police did not release a description of the suspect, or the getaway vehicle.

Assault at Montgomery Mall


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda Wednesday night, June 10, 2026. The assault was reported at the mall at 9:14 PM Wednesday. This is the fourth known assault to take place at the popular retail center so far this year. A total of twelve assaults were reported at the mall last year, so they are currently on a pace to improve on those numbers.

Assault reported at school in Rockville


Rockville City police were called to a school yesterday afternoon, June 10, 2026, after someone reported having been assaulted there. The assault was reported at a school in the 600 block of Great Falls Road at 1:50 PM Wednesday. Julius West Middle School is located at 651 Great Falls Road.

Lunchtime assault at Richard Montgomery HS in Rockville


Rockville City police were called to Richard Montgomery High School on Friday, June 5, 2026, after someone reported having been assaulted there. A 2nd-degree assault was reported on-campus at 12:30 PM Friday. An individual was also accused of weapon possession in the same incident.

Rockville City police responded to a report of an aggravated assault in the Burgundy Estates area early Saturday morning, May 30, 2026. The assault was reported along the street in the 900 block of Baltimore Road at 1:47 AM. A firearm was employed in the assault.

Switchblade-wielding juvenile threatens cineplex employee in Gaithersburg


Movie theater workers have it hard enough, sweeping up spilled popcorn and mopping up sticky soda after every screening for modest pay. Monday night at Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg, they also had to deal with a violent customer. According to Montgomery County police, a patron at the AMC DINE-IN Rio Cinemas 18 pulled out a switchblade at 9:37 PM Monday, and threatened a theater employee. The juvenile suspect apparently escaped arrest.

Customer assaulted at grocery store in Rockville


Rockville City police responded to a report of an assault at a grocery store early yesterday afternoon, May 25, 2026. The assault took place shortly after 12:30 PM at the Aldi supermarket at 1501 Rockville Pike at the Congressional North shopping center. While shopping, an adult male customer was struck in the face by an unknown individual, leaving him with minor lacerations. The suspect was ordered to leave the store by management, and left the scene before officers arrived.

The suspect is described as a tanned White male approximately 50-60 years of age, bald, and 5'8" in height. If you have any information about this incident, call police at 240.314.8900. Let's note once again this troubling 2026 trend of violent crime taking place during daylight hours in Montgomery County.

Rockville City police were summoned to a school yesterday afternoon, Thursday, May 21, 2026, after someone reported having been assaulted there. Officers were dispatched to College Gardens Elementary School at 1700 Yale Place at 4:05 PM. The assault took place between 3:35 and 4:00 PM Thursday.

Knife pulled on commuter at Rockville Metro station


Montgomery County police responded to a report of an aggravated assault at the Rockville Metro station late last night, May 4, 2026. The assault was reported at the station at 11:12 PM Monday. According to police, a suspect pulled a knife on the victim in the bus bay area of the station. Officers were able to identify and arrest the knife-wielding assailant.

Strong-arm robbery outside Montgomery County courthouse in Rockville


How strong and confident are Montgomery County criminals feeling these days, amidst their six-year crime wave? Confident enough to assault and rob someone in broad daylight outside of the Montgomery County Circuit Courthouse in Rockville. That's what Montgomery County police say happened yesterday afternoon at 3:21 PM. A suspect assaulted a victim, grabbed unspecified "personal property," and fled on foot. Police have not released a description of the suspect, and did not indicate how the suspect avoided appearing on the many surveillance cameras in the government center area.

Strong-arm robbery of takeout food in Rockville


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a strong-arm robbery in Rockville yesterday afternoon, April 20, 2026. The assault and robbery took place in the 14900 block of Shady Grove Road at 4:34 PM. Police say the victim was seated inside his vehicle with a takeout order of food. A suspect approached, physically assaulted the victim, grabbed his food and fled on foot.

Police have not released a description of the suspect as of this writing. They did not indicate how the suspect managed to evade multiple surveillance cameras in the Fallsgrove Village Center parking lot. Man pulls knife when told coffee isn't free in Rockville


There's no such thing as a free lunch, or even a free cup of coffee, in Rockville. A man seeking just that barged into a business in the 800 block of Rockville Pike around 5:00 AM on April 1, 2026, Montgomery County police report. When he was told he would have to pay for the coffee, the man pulled out a knife and threatened the employee. Police located the caffeinated suspect outside the business, which police did not identify, and placed him under arrest.

Late night door knockers assault resident in Rockville


Three suspects knocked on the door of a residence in the 600 block of Blandford Street in Rockville at 2:00 AM on March 26, 2026. When the resident answered the door, the suspects demanded to see an individual, Rockville City police say. After the resident informed them that person did not live there, the suspects physically assaulted the resident. Police have not released any suspect descriptions as of this writing.
