Arby's closes on Rockville Pike (Photos)

Here's a shocker: Arby's has closed at 11710 Rockville Pike in the White Flint area. While restaurants were devastated by indoor dining bans over the last year, fast food restaurants with drive-thrus like this Arby's often enjoyed booming business during the same period.

Fast food restaurants usually serve the largest percentage of customers via the drive-thru to begin with. But as of Tuesday night, this Arby's has been cleared out; even the menu boards are gone at the drive-thru and inside.

  1. Now what do you think they'll do with the prime location? Best guess is it will be a vacant lot for a decade or so while a developer goes through the MOCO bureaucratic red tape...

  2. It'd certainly be a great location for a Zaxby's/Raising Cane's/Cook Out if they're looking to expand into the area...

  3. That Arby's was there for around 30 years wasn't it?

    1. I’m 66 yrs old and this was where my first job was as a 16 yr old. It was 72, maybe 1973. I had to close and we had to go thru sterility drills each night so I didn’t get in bed until 2 am and up early for High School! Honestly I didn’t last long there and cut my hand each time I washed the “blade”. Lol. I cherish the one here in NC where I live now… Mocha shake. Sad to see this, and always thought Roy Rodgers a bit better. Still the Arby’s classic roast beef, no sauce is a favorite of mine.

  4. Thank you so much, Montgomery County Government over-taxers/over-regulators. It's getting to the point where we have to go to P.G./Howard/Anne Arundel County to find our now-departed favorite places.

  5. It's been exactly 50 years since I first saw that Arby's, when my family moved to Rockville. For most of that time, their food was pretty mediocre. Still, I'll miss seeing it there. Lots of things have changed on Rockville Pike in the past 5 decades, but that hokey sign endured for a long time. With luck, something really good will replace it. To be honest, there needs to be a Burger King on the Pike and that's a great spot. Dairy Queen would be nice. Also, a Wendy's (now that they do a decent breakfast). But, no more Starbucks!!

    1. There is a Wendys on R P going towards. It is at 808 R Pike by First Avenue.
There is also one in White Flint at 5001 Nicholson Lane.going down Nicholson towards Parklawn.

But another Wendys is NOT a bad thing. There are far too many mcdonalds.

  6. And yet another business is forced out of the county. When I worked in DC/Bethesda, it was a great place to stop for a quick bite on the way home.

My guess is that another gas station will go in. Of course, this means forcing out Popeye's. But, that shouldn't be a roadblock to our hyper-restrictive County government. And yet, these people continue to be re-elected year after year.

  7. I just google searched looking for them. In town from Minnesota and wanted to go there again. About 10 years ago I dropped my sandwich on the floor trying to get it under the condiment spigots and they gave me a new sandwich. Never forgot it.
