Akira opens at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda

Akira
has opened at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. Founded in 2002 by Eric Hsueh, Erikka Wang, and Jon Cotay in Chicago, the women's apparel boutique now boasts over 30 locations nationwide. Rather than derive inspiration from fashion trends in southern California or New York City, Akira's founders say their apparel is unapologetically representative of Windy City style. Look for Akira on Level 1 in the Old Navy/The Cheesecake Factory wing of the mall, in the space recently vacated by Alex Baby & Toys.

  1. Another fly-by-night junk box. It looks like a Burlington Coat Factory filled with off-price crap. Gone by spring.

    1. We get it. Your panties are in a bunch about another Asian-owned or Asian-themed establishment popping up, like you got mad about Teso Life. Well the Rockville area voted and there is demand for this so the supply will grow. Arby’s is gone and no one is pounding on doors for a Cracker Barrel or J. Crew so how about you take a pause from your misguided hate and think a little bit deeper about why these business trends are happening. Don’t trip on too many languid brain cells.

    2. Now that you poked my cage 9:22 PM, it's apparent that you DON'T GET IT! I mentioned nothing about the ethnicity of this retail merchant, since it's not in the original story, and I had not a clue that the owners are of Asian. My expression of discontent stems from the extremely basic display of merchandise in the store, akin to the layout you find in warehouse retail, displayed in bulk. This is similar to T.J. Max, Marshall's, Ross, and the aforementioned Burlington. It's not the quality you normally find in a mall. This is below the level of what you (not you per say) wouldn't find in Tysons' or Fair Oaks. This also has notta damn to do with Teso Life, and I don't, can't fathom how you blended Arby's and Cracker Barrel or for heaven sake "J.CREW into your bizarre comment. I suggest you take a pause, put down the weird stuff you're puffing, and cure your demented brain cells. You might start LEARNING!

    3. Yeah, we learned you didn’t read the article or you’re feigning ignorance on who are the store’s proprietors. Either way, you just didn’t like how someone called you out on your reactive, trolling unkindness. And let’s say its TJ Maxx aesthetic doesn’t fit with the mall? TJ Maxx and the like pull profits unlike the typical that “fit” in the mall like JCrew and Macys. The “cheap/bulk” feel? It works. Forever 21 is still there. Your jacked up spite against Akira wasn’t warranted. If its offerings aren’t for you then they aren’t for you. No need to be an explosive hemorrhoid.
