Roofer retaliates with hammer after Rockville homeowner rejects his quote

Rockville City police are seeking the public's help in identifying and locating a roofer they say damaged a home after the owner rejected his repair quote. The roofer, who police say told the homeowner he worked for Fairfax Roofing and Construction, inspected the chimney of the home in the 1000 block of Scott Avenue early on the afternoon of January 10, 2025. He then gave the homeowner a quote for how much the necessary work would cost. After hearing the estimate, the homeowner declined to hire the roofer.

Around 2:00 PM, neighbors called the homeowner to tell her a man was currently smashing her chimney with a hammer. The suspect was identified as the roofer who had earlier made the rejected estimate. Police say visible damage to the chimney was caused by the hammer attack.

The suspect is described by police as a White male with an Irish accent, 5'8" in height, and weighing approximately 280 pounds. He was driving a black pickup truck. If you can identify the suspect, you are asked to call police at 240-314-8900.

  2. "a White male with an Irish accent" knocked on my door last year and said that they would be paving down the street the next day.
He noticed that my driveway was uneven and offered to give me
an estimate, which I declined. They never came to pave down the street either.

  4. Sounds like the guy stopped at their house randomly -- they had no idea who he was but they allowed him on their roof to look at the chimney that was apparently leaking. How many thousands of times has it been said to hire licensed legitimate contractors. He told them who he supposedly worked for but he could have made up any name. The homeowner was not acting very smart. Now the police are looking for a black truck - That certainly narrows it down It reminds me of the Beltway Sniper and everyone was looking for a white van ..

  5. He was a grifter. You will never find him. Be glad he did not do the repair because it would be duct tape.

  6. A white male with an Irish accent? How tall was he? Did he have a red beard and spoke about a pot of gold?
