McDonald's has closed at 11564 Rockville Pike in White Flint. The loss is not permanent, however. McDonald's is relocating into a new restaurant building on the former Arby's site just up the Pike at 11710 Rockvile Pike. I had expected they might make an overnight switchover, but it looks like the transition won't be as seamless as I thought. The new McDonald's will have something this one never did: a drive-thru.

This was a Roy Roger's originally.
ReplyDeleteAnd before that, a Burger Chef. The Roy's kept the original building.
DeleteOh good information
DeleteAnd right next to the Burger Chef was a big farmers market for fresh produce open daily. And next to that was Montrose Motors, the only Jeep dealer in Montgomery County. Long ago.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone remember a restaurant that was on Old Georgetown rd right around where the Jaguar dealership is?it was in a house and was named something like Oliver's?
ReplyDeleteCrazy that people still go to McDonalds in this day and age
ReplyDelete9:20: I don't think it's that crazy. The food is good, and always has been. They do need to add the beef tallow back to the french fries and fry the apple pies again, though.
DeleteThe restaurant you refer to was called The Jolly Ox. A part of the national Steak and Ale chain, it was next door to Manhattan Motor Sales (today's Jaguar store) and across Old Georgetown Rd from the E.J. Korvettes department store.
ReplyDeleteMy recollection is the restaurant being Oscars' and it had a sign with a rather conceited look as he held a tray. It was often confused with Oscar Taylor's, a Chicago based chain, that was located at the northern end of the Korvettes shopping center. That spot was later filled by La Madeline for a few years.
DeleteOscar's is the restaurant I was trying to remember the name of,was only they once but was a good restaurant.
