Rock Grove shopping center gets new sign, art installation in Rockville (Photos)

A permanent tenant sign has been erected at the new Rock Grove shopping center at 16220 Frederick Road in Rockville. It lists the Comfort Inn hotel, interestingly, along with shopping center tenants Minerva Indian Cuisine, Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin Robbins, Luxury Nails and Atlas Pharmacy. Strangely, Qdoba Mexican Eats is not yet on the sign. The property also includes an office building.

Also new at the property is an art installation. It features a tree and soaring eagle, surrounded at the base by real landscaping.

Rockville Qdoba update (Photos)

Construction of the new Qdoba Mexican Eats restaurant at the Rock Grove shopping center is in the later stages of completion. Both the dining room and kitchen areas are shaping into their final forms. Even the menu flatscreens have been installed.

Still no tables and chairs, though, and some basic painting and finishes still to be added in places. Qdoba is located at the corner of Frederick Road and Shady Grove Road, on the border of Rockville and Gaithersburg.

Construction advancing at new Rockville Qdoba (Photos)

Qdoba
is out to an early lead among new tenants at the new Rock Grove shopping center at the corner of MD 355 and Shady Grove Road. The interior fit-out appears to be more than 50% complete. Permanent signage was installed this week above the storefront. The Mexican chain has an existing Rockville location at 128 Rollins Avenue.

A liquor license hearing for the restaurant has been scheduled for August 5, 2021. Work begins on future Rock Grove shopping center in Rockville

Work has begun on the transformation of the strip mall at the corner of MD 355 and Shady Grove Road in Rockville. Demolition of several vacant storefronts at one end of the shopping center is underway. Dunkin' Donuts remains open and is not part of the work being performed at this time. Rockville strip mall to be redeveloped as Rock Grove (Photos)

The Shady Grove Professional Building's retail strip mall at the corner of MD 355 and Shady Grove Road is going to be redeveloped as Rock Grove, a more-modern strip retail center. A rendering shown by JBG Smith promises a more modern and attractive appearance, while keeping the same retail use.
Dunkin' Donuts (which is not in the strip mall structure, but rather in the building itself) and Minerva Indian Cuisine are still operating, but other storefronts have been cleared out. It's uncertain which vacated tenants might return in the new center, as JBG Smith is advertising spaces as available in the future Rock Grove Center. It would be nice if they added a fast food restaurant with drive-thru to the parking lot, such as Steak and Shake, Jack-in-the-Box, or Hardee's - any chain currently not found in Montgomery County.
