Car stolen from Rockville apartment building

Rockville City police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at an apartment building near the Twinbrook Metro station on November 27, 2023. A Hyundai Sonata was stolen from the parking garage at The Terano apartments at 5720 Fishers Lane. The car is believed to have taken sometime between 7:45 AM and 6:00 PM.

Hyundai Sonatas are among the most-stolen vehicles in America, due to the company's failure to install up-to-date anti-theft technology on several models. Hyundai has faced legal action by jurisdictions, and class-action lawsuits, over a theft rampage fueled by TikTok videos showing how easy it is to steal Hyundai vehicles.

Capriotti's is out, Pure Barre is in at Galvan; 9Round to open at The Terano in Rockville

Say it ain't so, Joe (Biden)! The much-hyped Capriotti's Sandwich Shop, a favorite of the Vice President, has pulled out of the Galvan at Twinbrook development, I have confirmed. Thanks to the anonymous tipster who brought this to my attention. I had wondered what was going on with that, given that the franchisee had set a fall 2015 opening date.

But the JBG development continues to lease up with other tenants, trading high-calorie sandwiches for a calorie-burning fitness studio - Pure Barre.

Not to be outdone in the sweat department, JBG's The Terano development is adding 9Round, a kickboxing gym that promises to burn up to 500 calories in 30 minutes. "Say goodbye to the boring big box gyms," the 9Round website advises.

City and county officials celebrated the grand opening of the JBG Companies' The Terano, a 214-unit apartment building adjacent to the Twinbrook Metro station in Rockville, on Wednesday.

“We are excited to officially mark the opening of The Terano,” said Anthony Greenberg, a principal with JBG. “As we introduce more living and shopping options near the Twinbrook Metro, we continue to create a thriving pedestrian-friendly, transit-oriented community.”

Amenities at The Terano include a dog park, indoor pet spa with dog treadmill, a bicycle maintenance center, and a courtyard with swimming pool, outdoor kitchen, grilling stations and sundeck with a fireplace. There's also a KICK Fitness center with personal training available, and a yoga studio with classes offered. A game room includes shuffleboard, billiards and a poker table.

“It’s a great day in Rockville to welcome The Terano and its new residents to Twinbrook and to the city,” said Mayor Bridget Newton. “Bringing attractive new housing and retail close to Metro is a significant contribution to the economy, the environment and to our community as a whole. I congratulate JBG for this success.”

JBG pursuing Gold LEED for Homes certification for The Terano in Rockville

The JBG Companies announced it is pursuing a Gold LEED for Homes certification for its Terano development at 5720 Fishers Lane in Rockville. A 214-unit apartment building near the Twinbrook Metro station, The Terano has several features designed to meet the indoor air quality and health standards required for the certification under the LEED for Homes program.

These include a no-smoking policy, a mechanically ventilated HVAC system that delivers a constant flow of fresh air, high-efficiency HVAC filters that reduce airborne dust and particles, energy-saving low-emittance windows, low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint, adhesives, and Green Label Plus-rated carpet.

Light-colored roofing cools the "heat island" effect of urban buildings, and Energy Star appliances and built-in Smart Meters add to energy efficiency.

This is the first project JBG has applied to the U.S. Green Building Council LEED for Homes pilot program for certification.
