2 robberies in 24 hours at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda

Montgomery County police were busy at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda as the last week in January began. Officers responded to two robberies in 24 hours at the popular retail center at 7101 Democracy Boulevard. A strong-arm robbery was reported at the mall on Sunday, January 26, at 6:30 PM. Less than 24 hours later, on Monday, January 27, a second robbery was called in at 12:40 PM. A business at the mall was the victim in that robbery. The tenant has not yet been identified. An unspecified weapon was implied or employed in the second robbery, but it was not a gun.

Montgomery Mall had nearly made it to the end of the first month of 2025 without a violent crime taking place there. Eleven assaults were reported at the mall in 2024, up from five in 2023. The last assault was on November 12, 2024. A new leadership team was brought into the mall by parent company Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield ten days later. The peak holiday shopping period from Black Friday through Christmas then passed uneventfully, in terms of crime. Only the typical shoplifting calls expected at any mall during the holiday season were reported during that time. January had likewise been violent-crime-free, until this past Sunday.

Armed carjacking in Rockville parking garage

Rockville City police responded to a report of an armed carjacking Friday afternoon, December 27, 2024, near the Twinbrook Metro station. The carjacking was reported in a residential parking garage in the 1100 block of Higgins Place at 3:01 PM Friday. That is in the area of the Alaire apartments.

Rockville robbers demand coat at knifepoint

Armed robbers in Rockville demanded a man's coat in broad daylight on December 6, 2024, Rockville City police say. When he refused to take it off and hand it to them, they pulled out a kitchen knife to make their point. The two suspects approached the victim as he was at work cleaning outdoors in the 300 block of Hungerford Drive at 9:00 AM, in the busy Rockville Town Center area. 

Having threatened the victim with the knife, the suspects were successful in obtaining the victim's coat, wallet, and additional outerwear he had been wearing at the time. Police describe Suspect #1 as a Black male, tall with a muscular build, and wearing a black Nike hat, blue coat, and brown pants. Suspect #2 is described as a Black male "significantly shorter” than his partner, wearing a ski mask, brown sweater, white shirt, and brown pants. Armed robbery at Rockville convenience store

Rockville City police responded to a report of an armed robbery at a convenience store in the Twinbrook area on Thanksgiving night, November 28, 2024. The robbery was reported at 10:02 PM at a store in the 13200 block of Atlantic Avenue. There is a 7-Eleven store on that block at 13251 Atlantic. A firearm was the weapon employed in the robbery.

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed robbery at a home in Rockville on October 31, 2024. The robbery was reported in the yard of a home in the 11900 block of Rocking Horse Road last Thursday at 12:20 PM. A firearm was the weapon employed in the robbery.

Armed robbery at Walgreens in Rockville

Rockville City police responded to a report of an armed robbery at Walgreens at 1075 Seven Locks Road on Wednesday night, August 7, 2024. The robbery was reported at 9:17 PM Wednesday. @MoCoPGNews on Twitter posted that the suspect was wielding a knife, and grabbed money out of a cash register. Suspect detained in Rockville armed robbery

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed robbery in Rockville Wednesday night, July 17, 2024. The robbery was reported in the 12500 block of Village Square Terrace at 9:50 PM Wednesday. @DCNewsLive on Twitter reported that a vehicle was later pulled over by police on Old Georgetown Road at the interchange with I-495 in Bethesda. At least one person in that vehicle was detained in relation to the armed robbery.

Robbery at knifepoint at Rockville apartment building

The victim reported being held up at knifepoint at an apartment building in the 100 block of E. Argyle Street at 2:41 AM Tuesday. That is a garden apartment complex a few blocks south of the Rockville Town Center area.

Rockville apartment tenant robbed, assaulted at knifepoint

Rockville City police are searching for a suspect in the March 2, 2024 armed robbery and assault at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Baltimore Road. Around 3:12 PM Saturday, a tenant was just outside his apartment door when he was approached by an adult male suspect. The suspect displayed a knife, and demanded the tenant empty his pockets. Refusing to comply, the tenant attempted to flee.

The suspect then kicked the tenant, and managed to obtain cash from the victim before fleeing the scene. Police describe the suspect as a male of unknown race, wearing a black jacket with a hood. Rockville City police responded to a report of an armed carjacking in a parking garage early Tuesday morning, December 5, 2023. The carjacking was reported in a commercial parking garage in the 15100 block of Frederick Road at 2:19 AM Tuesday. That's along MD 355, between College Parkway and Gude Drive.

The robbery was reported at a residence in the 14100 block of Chinkapin Drive at 4:14 AM Friday. Among the property reportedly demanded in the robbery was a vehicle. Masked suspects sought in Rockville armed carjacking

Rockville City police have released more details about the armed carjacking that took place on a residential street last week. Police say the female victim was approached by several masked suspects brandishing weapons outside a home on Leonard Court in the Markwood neighborhood around 9:12 PM on November 8.
