Assault at Rockville soccer facility

Rockville City police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault at a soccer facility Friday night, July 7, 2023. The assault was reported at a youth and adult soccer complex in the 1000 block of Westmore Avenue at 8:27 PM.

Pop-up fashion boutique opening at Cabin John Village in Potomac

A fashion boutique is moving into the storefront next to ReWild at Cabin John Village in Potomac. This is on the side street located to the left of the building where Giant is. Clothes are on racks with wheels, and two temporary changing rooms have been set up off to one side, so it appears to be a pop-up shop.

Lush to relocate at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda

The game of tenant musical chairs continues at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. Anya by Vivien just moved downstairs outside of Nordstrom. Now Lush is preparing to move into that vacant space. The cosmetics retailer is currently located outside Nordstrom on Level 2.

Break-in at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda

Montgomery County police responded to a burglar alarm at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda early on the morning of July 4, 2023. The alarm was triggered at 5:53 AM Tuesday. Officers arriving at the scene found evidence of forced entry.

Rockville church could be replaced with townhomes

A Rockville church could be demolished to make way for 38 "two-over-two" townhome-style condominums, if approved by the Rockville Planning Commission and Mayor and Council. Developer Pulte has proposed the project for the Twinbrook Community Church property at 5906 Halpine Road. The 65,580-square-foot property currently holds a church building and a daycare center. 

Pulte says that the church is going to vacate and sell the property to them because of declining attendance at worship services, and "economic forces." It is seeking to rezone the R-60 property to RMD-15 or MXD, under the Rockville 2040 master plan recommendations. A preliminary traffic study shows that the townhomes will generate 45 fewer morning automobile trips, and 40 fewer evening trips, than the current church and daycare.

The existing church architecture is quite nice, and the new use will certainly change the character of that corner, which is directly across from single-family homes. However, the church property is on other sides surrounded by multifamily developments: Kanso Twinbrook, The Alaire, and Cambridge Walk. It is less than 1000 feet from the Twinbrook Metro station. The Rockville Development Review Committee will review Pulte's application at its July 26, 2023 meeting, and the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the project at a future date to be scheduled.

Anya by Vivien relocates at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda

Anya by Vivien has made the move at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. The Afro-European-inspired gown boutique has vacated its Level 2 space, which is now walled off in preparation for a new tenant. A sign posted there directs customers to the new location, right outside of Nordstrom on Level 1. Anya by Vivien has been open at the mall since November 2021.

Daboba tea shop to hold grand opening in Rockville

Daboba is getting ready for a busy two days this upcoming weekend in Rockville. The Malaysia-based bubble tea chain will celebrate the grand opening of its newest store in the Talbott Center at 1079 Rockville Pike this Saturday, July 8, 2023 and Sunday, July 9. On Saturday, Daboba's first 50 customers will receive a free drink, and the next 50 customers will be offered a buy-one-get-one-free deal. The first 100 customers on Sunday will receive "free gifts." 

After 3:00 PM on Sunday, you will be able to get any of their Honey Golden Pearl series drinks for 50% off if you purchase one of their Roasted Brown Sugar series beverages. One complication for those eager to be first in line is that Daboba has not yet announced its operating hours. Most of their US stores open at 11:00 AM, except the Midwest stores, which seem to open at noon.
