Rockville City Attorney resigns

Rockville City Attorney Debra Yerg Daniel has resigned. City spokesperson Marylou Berg said Daniel is now on administrative leave until September 14.

Deputy City Attorney Cynthia Walters is Acting City Attorney, until a replacement is named. Berg said all communications related to Daniel's resignation, such as a resignation letter, are part of Daniel's personnel file and are considered confidential.

  1. After her mayor and council August 5th yearly review (which took 3 days), city attorney, Debra Daniel, was given the choice of resigning or not having her contract renewed (i.e. being fired).

    1. Debra Daniel was toxic and divisive. She should have been fired years ago. Her underhanded antics date back years. Check out http://www.savesandyspring.org/Links/Lewis,A_Affidavit_and_Appendix_MD.pdf and search for "Debra"

  2. Ah, Robert, you have such brave anonymous commenters, as always. Reputable news sites are getting rid of anonymous commenters -- you might consider it.

Ms. Daniel was a terrific help to me during my two terms on the City Council, never more so than when I brought a new idea to her for a legal opinion and she told me "No," which was distressingly often. Her bravery in providing honest legal opinions to the Mayor and Council was not as well appreciated by some of my colleagues at the time, and I expect that some of them didn't appreciate it now.

Ah, Robert, allow me to take this opportunity to disparage your readers, your blog and you with sarcasm and insinuating that Rockville Nights is not a “reputable” source.

Ms. Daniel was indispensable helping me, especially when I was running for office or trying to push through developer-friendly legislation. Her biased legal opinions favored me and my team Rockville comrades.

  3. Working in City Hall over the years, I have seen highly inappropriate and unethical behavior from Ms. Daniels. She has not just consulted, but written many official city letters for department heads and even boards & commissions chairs, which they then signed as their own. Some of these letters resulted in city employee terminations and significant policy decisions, which favored certain Rockville politicians' agendas.
