E. Montgomery Avenue reopens along Regal Row in Rockville Town Center

E. Montgomery Avenue has reopened to traffic all the way along "Regal Row" in Rockville Town Center. A section of the roadway in front of World of Beer was temporarily closed during the pandemic. Regal Cinemas is scheduled to reopen there later this month.

  1. I just noticed the reopening yesterday while dining at WOB. I didn't realize it was open until I was seated and notice a truck pull in a park in front of California Tortilla. That single lane of one-way traffic is a bit dangerous, as the separation between the street tables and the roadway is very close. While dining there I also noticed, as did several other customers, a rather disgruntled truck driver, enter the drive in the wrong direction, and continue thru, even in the face of oncoming vehicles. Luckily the oncoming traffic stopped before the narrowing segment and allowed the truck to pass. This could be a dangerous situation if not additional barriers and warnings are installed.

    1. I expect we'll see more issues like this wherever street space is being used for dining. Some of the ones I see in the District while driving look pretty dangerous if an accident were to propel a car in any way out of the adjoining lane.

  2. So, to clarify, the left lane is still closed off for additional WOB seating, the center lane is one-way thru traffic (as it was pre-pandemic), and the right lane is street parking (as it was pre-pandemic).

  3. Thank you for pointing this out. I would have preferred it if they kept it closed. Pedestrian malls seem to attract a vibrant economy and more investment.

    1. There isn't much to vibrate in a one block section of eateries, and this complete closure will hardly draw a fly.
