Lagos Bar & Grill, Mercat Bar de Tapas coming to Rockville Town Square

Rockville Town Square
is adding two more restaurants. Lagos Bar & Grill will take over the Bar Louie space at 150 Gibbs Street. Mercat Bar de Tapas has leased 101-C Gibbs Street down the block. That's a space that has suffered heavy turnover in the last decade, including former tenants Gumbo Ya Ya, Ev & Maddy's and Lab Cafe.

  1. Good happy hours, please! Glad they appear to continue the RTS trend of replacing chain restaurants with local ones.

  3. 101-C is one of the most ridiculous retail spaces I have ever seen. The size of it maybe the most preventive factor to any restaurant's success. This spot was also the home, and demise, of Tippy's Tacos and Bobby's Crab cakes.

    1. What's wrong with the size? It's identical to Bonchon next door and that's been going strong for a decade now.

    2. Also was a steak frites place for a very small time period. Thats 6 businesses in 12ish years smh. Hopefully closing the road for outdoor area will help.

  4. @4:47PM - They may be identical in size, but not in dimensions. 101-C is narrower than Bonchon and thus presents a more difficult layout for tenants, particularly restaurants, to work with. The options are limiting in how your flow of seating, service, and workspace are hampered.

    1. Eh, maybe you're right within a couple of feet, but they're awfully similar. I'm confident it's just a matter of finding a good tenant. All four of the neighboring restaurants (Bonchon, First Watch, Spice Xing and Finnegan's) have done good business for many years and that wouldn't suddenly change just because their interior layout was slightly different.

  5. Lagos is the financial capital city of Nigeria, West Africa. Does it also mean something in Latin or Hispanic culture? Is it also a place/city?
