Assault at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, 8th reported there since May 18

Once again, Montgomery County police were called to Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, after another 2nd-degree assault was reported there last night, August 21, 2022. The assault was reported at the mall at 6:37 PM Sunday. This was the eighth 2nd-degree assault at the mall since May 18. The Montgomery County Police Department announced earlier this month that it would be establishing a "resource room" at the popular retail destination.

  3. In the 1990s we had to build more jails and prisons, once all the criminals were locked up the crime and violence stopped. We need to do it again.

    3. Violent criminal should be locked up period. The criminalization of non violent offenses should result in more restitution or incarceration if not paid

  5. Yes. Of course. the US has more prisons, more incarcerated people than any nation on earth, so clearly the problem is we need more jails.

    1. The problem is that the liberal District Attorneys are letting violent offenders out of prison and not charging other violent criminals with crimes that would see them locked up.Cant you understand that? When the prisons were built and the laws were enforced, the streets were safe.

  6. Yes you do. These losers need to be off the streets or they can stay at your house. The incidences of crime at the mall is out of control and defund the police Marc Elrich is part of the problem.

  7. Barring adoption of Saudi Arabian justice, the "solution" will eventually become membership-only shopping, home delivery, and no-contact (bulletproof glass) shopping for the poor. In case you don't already know this, crime most hurts the poorest.

  8. Both extreme comments miss the mark . It’s the TREND that is distressing and performative act of establishing a “resource” room- what the hell is that ? A safe space for juvenile delinquents? Residents in western and northern mothpmery county need to insist on additional police presence . We pay a disproportionate amount of Tex revenue and receive fewer police resourcing . We need a armed plainclothes man walking a beat in the mall . Grantee you this will ‘reverse the trend’ we need to address this now before it becomes a serious security issue and exacerbated tensions even further .

  10. Lets not make this about politics. It is a criminal act.

  11. Crime comes with low income housing where teens receive less parenting and supervision. Same happens in schools. Bus contributes. This has increased over last 5- years.
