Another "sign" of the future Wegmans-anchored Twinbrook Quarter development has appeared on Rockville Pike. An interior street of the Saul Centers-developed property is now being established at its connection with the Pike (MD 355). It is named Festival Street.
Festival Street, located at the north end of Phase 1 of the project, now has traffic signals in place, and cross-street signage, over its intersection with Rockville Pike. When activated, the new signals will also regulate traffic from an entrance to Congressional Plaza across the street. Wegmans is scheduled to open next year at the development.
The 18mo opening delay is still a mystery. Very strange.
ReplyDeleteBecause the city of rockville is a nightmare for a developer to deal with.
DeleteThere no "opening delay." Obviously the structure being erected and the retail being built out are completely different things. You don't build a 80,000 sqft grocery store in a few months. It's not a kitchen renovation, for god's sake.
DeleteI've heard that.
ReplyDeleteLayoff the social media.
DeleteI'm an engineer with 30yrs heavy construction experience. There most certainly was an 18mo delay with very little on-site activity. The question remains as to why.
ReplyDeleteComplete nonsense. Groundbreaking was 09/21, top out was 02/23, completion will be in a couple months. When on earth do you think they fit in 18 months of downtime? 450+ units and 100K+ sqft of retail space in under 3 years and you think more than half that time was spent doing nothing? Yeah, right. There were definitely some staging delays, probably related to utility relocation if I had to guess, but it was nowhere near 18 months.
DeleteThe City of Rockville has difficult inspectors to work with. Their regulations are a nightmare and getting permits can delay a project by 1 year.
