Last decade, this website was a lonely voice in the media landscape warning that the economies of Montgomery County and Maryland were moribund. Since 2018, powerful voices such as the editorial board of The Washington Post, two-time County Executive candidate David Blair, and even Maryland Governor Wes Moore have reached the same conclusion. Now, an overwhelming majority of Maryland residents are also saying the state's economy has stagnated. 67% of residents polled by the University of Maryland Baltimore County declared Maryland's economy as "poor" or "fair." Results of the poll were released Tuesday by UMBC.
49% of residents told pollsters that Maryland is "on the wrong track." 62% are concerned about the amount of taxes Maryland residents pay. That's not a major shock, as Maryland is one of the states with the highest tax burden in America, and Montgomery County has the highest tax and fee burden of any jurisdiction in the Washington, D.C. area. 77% of residents want lawmakers to focus on crime, but would probably be surprised to learn that the only crime bills likely to pass in the current session of the state legislature will loosen up on criminals, instead of cracking down.
Marylanders tax burden is very high, now Governor Moore is on track to increasing that burden, as a state retiree we have lost our prescription benefit, both the Governor and state legislators could care less and their focus is a crime bill that lets young offenders get away with their crime sprees? Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture??? We the people expect solutions or get ready to be voted out period!!
ReplyDeleteWhat efforts did the former governor put forth for a crime bill, can you tell us?
DeleteAgree.
DeleteAgree.
DeleteYeah you voted a Democrat libterd into office.
DeleteI'm seriously thinking about moving to another state. Taxes and fees are killing me!
DeleteWake up Marylanders, you elect these kind of leaders, you get these policies. Moore’s policies have put us in a 3 billion dollar deficit.
ReplyDeleteDo you actually think anyone here is uneducated enough to believe that?
DeleteThat deficit was inherited.
DeleteConsidering Hogan left moore a $5 BILLION SURPLUS, you could probably figure it out
DeleteMarylanders received COVID checks because of the surplus now they will receive sales tax, property tax increases ( for the less than 50% that pay taxes) Don’t you just love progressives.. moving South soon..
DeleteWhat did Governor Hogan do to solve this?
ReplyDelete9:05: Virtually everything Gov. Hogan proposed was blocked by the Democrat-controlled legislature.
DeleteKinda like Pres. Obama huh?
DeleteHogan left a $5 BILLION surplus for moore to throw away - he didn’t disappoint
DeleteIt is time that Maryland’s pendulum swings back to center. The woke liberal politics do not work for the majority of the people of Maryland. It’s time to have a responsible government and budget and allow business to flourish rather than strangle them with senseless regulations just to exert power and authority. Wake up people!
ReplyDeleteIf it's anything like the crap being practiced at 1600 PA Ave have at it.
DeleteGlad my wife and I move out of Md, although I will miss the Os and Md Crab cakes!
ReplyDeleteYour loss is our gain, Felicia.
DeleteNo Moore
ReplyDeleteElection time, get rid of the blue! All of them.
ReplyDeleteWishful, gawd awful thinking. In today's climate you have a snowballs chance in hell of that happening. Paying a little attention to what the Department Of Government Eradication is doing would prevent reaching a stupid comment.
DeleteHogan handed the state a surplus; he was a goalkeeper against the runaway foolishness in the State House. Reckoning days are here and a Virginia legislator I know said it best : "Maryland is sadly (should not be and wasn't always) now a second rate state governed by third rate people.
ReplyDeleteThe bottom line is that most of the people who were voted in are not listening to their constituents. That includes the governor. I have emailed them, and I either get a "form letter" response that says nothing or I get no response at all. But I keep doing it. You can voice your opinions to them and be respectful, even if they don't care about you. Maybe next time people will be more informed before they go to the ballot box.

ReplyDeleteI did NOT VOTE for Moore those who did don't whine you did this
Exactly!!
DeleteInstead you voted for tfg. How'd that turn out? Buyer's remorse.
DeleteWhy don’t they focus on attracting businesses especially tech industry (that is booming in VA). Create jobs and get people to work (especially youngsters). Good for economy, will reduce crime and maybe even help reduce taxes.
ReplyDeleteFake facts, sorry, alternative facts. Lies!
