Rockville to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples' Day

Days before Columbus Day 2020, the City of Rockville will give Cristóbal Colón the boot. Tonight, the Mayor and Council will officially proclaim October 12 as "Indigenous Peoples' Day," replacing the city's celebration of Columbus Day. According to the agenda item about the proclamation that will be read near the beginning of tonight's meeting, the change will "avoid celebrating Columbus and the European colonization of the Americas."

  1. The Indigenous people of the America were fond of scalping each other and in Central America and South America they would perform human sacrifice of young children.

    2. You act like the settlers were pure, innocent puritans who never did horrible. Those settlers who came to America illegaly, kicked Native Americans off their land, enslaved Africans and brought them here to build this country, destroyed the natural ecosystem of America, among many other things. It was never for the greater good- it was for good of one community.

  5. This is relevant and top priority. Meanwhile, I feel as if I’m living in a NASCAR pit with the constant stream of mega decibel automotive and motorcycle mufflers prevalent in Rockville and King Farm. Quality of life is deteriorating, and these clowns are congratulating each other on their wokeness removing Maryland, My Maryland.
