Demolition begins to clear way for Rockville Wegmans

Demolition to make way for the future Rockville Wegmans grocery store is now officially underway. Fencing has been up for several weeks, while the contractor awaited approval of the demolition permits. Wegmans will be the retail anchor of a large B.F. Saul development to be called Twinbrook Quarter, here at the corner of Rockville Pike and Halpine Road, across from Congressional Plaza.

  1. Nice. Another step towards making Rockville Pike the equivalent to driving on DC streets. Way to go MoCo. #MoCoLovesGentrifying #Idiots

  2. Bitch, bitch, bitch!!! Rockville Pike has always been a nightmare to navigate and one more store is not going to add that much traffic. If you live in this area you should know there are ways to get to this new store from north, south, east and west without traveling on the pike. Why should the residents of one of the richest counties in the U.S. have to travel miles to D.C. or Germentown to shop at a premier grocery store? I'm happy they are coming and if you don't like it don't shop there or move.

  3. Hooray! Lol at the first two whining. Someone has to be high as a kite to not recognize how much of an improvement this.

  4. Wegmans will be nice to compete with Aldis. Still miss Fuddruckers - how I found this article. No other Fuddrucker's in MD, have to go to VA. Shame what they did to their employees though. What about the Salvation Army, where did they relocate to?

  5. Wegmans is terrific! Much better quality groceries than any other place which is why they have such a loyal following. I travel to Germantown or VA to shop there. So glad I won't have to do 270 or the beltway in traffic once it's open. Try it, you'll like it!

  6. I am psyched to have a Wegman's close by. Fantastic place for a variety of great food.
