Rockville Baskin Robbins grand opening this Saturday, June 3

Rockville has been one Baskin Robbins ice cream parlor short since their Congressional Plaza location closed in late 2019. That is now remedied with the new Baskin Robbins store at 1079 Seven Locks Road. It will be celebrating with a grand opening event this Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 12:00 - 4:00 PM. There will be a DJ, prizes, giveaways, and - of course - 31 flavors. Mention this Facebook ad below to get $2 scoops during the event. If you need a recommendation, it's definitely Baseball Nut season!

The Scoop ice cream shop construction underway at Cabin John Village in Potomac (Photos)

Way back on March 29, 2022, I broke the story that The Scoop would bring ice cream back to Cabin John Village, in the space Baskin Robbins vacated at 7909 Tuckerman Lane. And what a "scoop" it was! Now, construction is finally underway inside the storefront. I see flattened shipping boxes for the Avantco ice cream dipping cabinets on the floor - and you can too, in this sneak peek below:

Dairy Queen closes at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda (Photos)

Sad news for Dairy Queen fans, including me. Dairy Queen has closed at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. Last night, the Dairy Queen stall was shuttered and dark. Menu boards and a significant amount of equipment had been removed, but the sign was still up. Today, a mall spokesperson confirmed that Dairy Queen has permanently closed.

Rockville-based Gemma Gelato now available at Dawson's Market

Gemma Gelato
is a local Rockville company producing artisan, Italian-style gelato and vegan sorbetto from scratch daily. Their products have previously been available at local farmers markets, but just got even more convenient to buy. Gemma Gelato is now available at Dawson's Market at 225 N. Washington Street at Rockville Town Square. They will also soon be sold through another Rockville grocer, MOM's Organic Market, and you can ship their products directly to your door by ordering online.

The final hours of Baskin Robbins in Rockville

There were 31 flavors, but many less hours left in the life of Baskin Robbins at Congressional Plaza this past Sunday. The shop generously offered all ice cream at 50% off to customers on the final day of operation. Baskin Robbins - the chain - is directing customers here to their store at 7909 Tuckerman Lane in Potomac. I don't believe I've ever gone to that Baskin Robbins, so I'm interested to give it a try, since this one was the best in the county in my opinion. One scoop of Peanut Butter & Chocolate, and one scoop of Baseball Nut, for the final farewell. Another great business closes in moribund, razor-thin-profit-margin, high tax, high cost, high rent Montgomery County.

Class 520 Thai ice cream update (Photos)

A sleek and modern interior is taking shape at the future Class 520 ice cream shop at 5 Dawson Avenue. The store will be, as far as I am aware, the first to bring Thai ice cream rolls to Rockville (and possibly, Montgomery County).

They are also now hiring staff. There's a lot more to making stir-fried Thai ice cream than dipping a scoop of vanilla out of a tub, that's for sure.

East Grill Karaoke, Class 520 Thai ice cream rolls coming to Rockville Town Center (Photos)

Two new dining options are coming to Rockville's Town Center. East Grill Karaoke is moving into the Courthouse Center shopping center at 12 N. Washington Street. And a new ice cream shop called Class 520 is taking over the former My Vapez space at 5 Dawson Avenue. The store will offer handcrafted Thai ice cream rolls.
Future home of
Class 520
Is this the first place to offer Thai ice cream rolls in Rockville, or just the first one I've heard of? These are also known as stir-fried ice cream, a way of making ice cream that originated in Thailand.

Here is a video showing how the rolls are made.

NEW DUNKIN' DONUTS/BASKIN ROBBINS IN ROCKVILLE (PHOTO)

There's a new donut shop in town, and if that wasn't enough danger for your New Year's resolutions, it has a Baskin Robbins ice cream store in it, as well. The new store is located at 777 Hungerford Drive, next to 7-Eleven, and near the original Flagship Car Wash location. Another Dunkin' Donuts is opening in the College Plaza shopping center, as well.

RON BURGUNDY'S SCOTCHY SCOTCH SCOTCH ICE CREAM REVIEW (VIDEO)

Stay classy, Rockville! Here's a review of the new Ben and Jerry's flavor, Ron Burgundy's Scotchy Scotch Scotch. Of course, this is inspired by the recent Anchorman 2 movie. As you might guess from the name, it is butterscotch ice cream with swirls of butterscotch mixed in. But is it rich enough to win the prestigious John Candy Award?
