Rockville election results 2019

Newton reelected,
Rockville Forward slate
takes voting majority

Unofficial Rockville election results for Mayor and five City Council seats were released by the City of Rockville at 1:29 AM this morning. The numbers currently show incumbent Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton being reelected, and the Rockville Forward slate taking a voting majority on the City Council. Unofficial winners for City Council are Monique Ashton, incumbent Beryl Feinberg, David Myles, and incumbent Mark Pierzchala.

Ashton and Feinberg ran on the Rockville Forward slate with Newton. With the Mayor having equal voting power to a Councilmember, that would give Rockville Forward a 3-vote majority, and control of the direction of the city for the next four years. Myles and Pierzchala ran on the Team Rockville slate.

This was the first vote-by-mail election in Rockville, and the City announced heavy turnout at the end of the voting day Tuesday, as well as a largely-expected increase in voter participation. 12, 213 ballots were cast by mail or at City Hall. The City cited the increased number of ballots as the reason for the delay in election results Tuesday evening.

The new voter universe appears to have broken the voters' seeming preference for divided government over the last decade. In recent past elections, voters wanted Newton as Mayor, but gave Team Rockville a 3-vote majority. Newton has sought to manage the city's growth, while Team Rockville favored a more-agressive urban density. This year, voters seem to be comfortable with the direction Newton has charted, and have rewarded her with a Council majority.

Having said that, slates don't always work out the way they are expected to. Team Rockville City Councilmember Virginia Onley, who ran for mayor against Newton Tuesday, broke with her slate to side with Newton and Feinberg on some votes. Seeing how each member votes on particular issues in the coming term will be interesting to watch, especially newcomers Ashton and Myles.

The election results will be certified on Tuesday, November 12.

  1. Onley's dirty politics failed as she went down to defeat with a 2:1 margin. Virginia, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

    There's that weird phrase again.

  3. How will these election results affect the B.F. Saul Alinsky project in Twinbrook?

    2. It won't affect at all. The City Council unanimously in a 4-0 vote approved the APFO exemption that allowed the project plan to move forward. Three of those members were reelected, so it would seem the project would retain majority support.

  4. The biggest win for Rockville in the 2019 City Election is that avowed racist, Brigitta Mullican, did not get elected. In a social media post on Election Day, she claimed victory, stating “I won.” In fact, Rockville voters repudiated her caustic and divisive diatribe by relegating her to NINETH place. Sick a fork in her, she’s done!

    1. Robert will screech voter fraud just like the little sore loser snowflake he is.
      Sorry Robbie

    2. It is my understanding that Mullican threatened her Hispanic neighbors in Twinbrook that if they did not display her campaign yard sign on their property that she would report them to ICE.

    4. As a Republican, who did NOT vote for Mullican, I was surprised when she came to my door and insisted that I “bullet vote” for her (vote for her and no one else). Not only that, but I received a mailer from the Republican Party endorsing her, which also instructed me to bullet vote for her. Is this legal? Even if it is, it just doesn't seem right.

    5. If she's an avowed racist, then there must be some evidence of her proclaiming to be a racist. Please share.

    6. As far as I know, Mullican has not come out publicly and said the words, I, Brigitta Mullican, am an avowed racist.” However, she has wrongly accused Hispanics of rape on national television, publicly insisted that Hispanics be forcibly deported and to a large group insisted that she would not allow Jews into her home.

    7. Hearsay. Can you provide proof of your hyperbolic accusation? There must be evidence somewhere, right? Until you do, you're the problem.

    10. Mullican is a confirmed racist. She has made her racist views clear many times during Rockville community forum. In a September 23rd tirade on live TV (Channel 11), Police Chief Brito was asked to refute her blatantly false race-baiting diatribe immediately after she spoke at Community Forum. You can see this at http://rockvillemd.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=4074 time mark 47:57.

She has disparaged Hispanics for years, calling on ICE to round them up from their Rockville homes, lock them up and then deport them. She engaged in a racist rant on Fox News a couple of years ago with Tucker Carlson and vilified two Hispanic boys prior to any due process and prior to the boys’ vindication in a court of law. She referred to them as “illegal kids,” stating that “They’re there [at an MCPS School] as a criminal…” Check out Mullican on Fox News at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAIO1mhIEXg

As far as her antisemitism is concerned, as a former board member of a Rockville board/commission, ten years ago I sat across from her at a board meeting, where she declared for all in attendance, that she would not allow Jewish people into her home.

Mullican is a RACIST and a LOSER.

  6. Ms. Mullican, you have run for Rockville city council and mayor countless times. Rockville voters have told you time and again that they are not interested in your racist and divisive style of politics. When will you get the message?
