The sign is up at Kusshi, opening soon at 36-G Maryland Avenue at Rockville Town Square. This is the latest location for the local sushi chain in Montgomery County, joining existing spots in Bethesda, Pike & Rose, and downtown Silver Spring. There are also locations in Arlington, Tysons, and Glover Park. Here, Kusshi will more than fill the void left by the exit of Sushi Damo. Stay tuned for an opening date!

People love to complain about closures in downtown Rockville, but the restaurant turnover has been such an extreme net-positive overall. Almost all of the restaurants that closed were generic national chains (Bar Louie, Mellow Mushroom, Gordon Biersch, etc.) and everything new that's being added (Gyoza, Thai Chef, El Mercat, Kusshi, etc.) is locally owed and of significantly higher quality. Just fill the Gordon Biersch spot with a local brewery and call it a day.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Having a local brewery like Seven Locks, Clear Skies, or some of the ones in Olney/Brookeville would be so nice to have in RTC. I don’t wanna drive to a strip mall or out in Olney to drink: I wanna be able to safely walk home after drinking
DeleteTake a mental look at all the local breweries, none of them are in the business of serving meals as GB was, thus you won't see them filling a space like that of GB. GB was an anchor and its demise created a domino effect. Luckily, local business have filled in were possible saving this retail center.
DeleteNo local breweries serve food? That's news to Brookeville, Lone Oak, Denizens, Jailbreak, Silver Branch, etc. Breweries that DON'T serve food these days are the outlier. And it's odd you think GB's business model is the only way for the space to be successful since they, you know, went bankrupt.
DeleteIs Kevin Costners movie Horizon : an American Saga playing at the Regal?
ReplyDeleteSafely walk home. There’s an Irish bar Finnagins wake in RTC stays open till 3am it’s walking home safely that the problem . You want a local brewer there ? GB to too big a space you need too much turnover to make any profit WOB needs a revamp never liked it anyway
ReplyDeleteall you need is probably few million dollars to invest . You should start one…lol
hopefully it can survive
