Supercuts has closed in Rockville

Supercuts has permanently closed at 211 E. Middle Lane in Rockville Town Center. The hair salon opened four years ago in the Cambria Suites hotel. It wasn't Montgomery County's moribund economy to blame this time, nor the struggles of the town center area, as the entire chain was impacted by the coronavirus lockdown that forbid haircuts. That temporary closure is now permanent, and the signage has been removed.

Red Door Salon & Spa rebrands as Mynd Spa & Salon in Rockville, Gaithersburg

Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon & Spa is in the process of rebranding nationwide as Mynd Spa & Salon. While the rebranding will occur one region at a time, their Rockville and Gaithersburg salons have now officially made the change. The revamped salons will focus on seven primary services: massage therapy, body treatments, skin care, nail care, haircut and color, makeup, and waxing. There will be a new emphasis on products from the European Union, where the company says environmental and purity standards are higher than in the United States.

Rockville's spa is at 934 Rose Avenue in the Canopy by Hilton hotel. Gaithersburg's is in the Kentlands at Kentlands Place, located at 62 Market Street.

Drybar to open in Rockville

Drybar will round out the retail spaces in the ground floor of the Canopy by Hilton hotel at Pike & Rose. The popular blowout salon will open at 11861 Grand Park Avenue next spring. Their 1705 SF space will be next to Sunday Morning Bakehouse and UNIQLO.

This will be only the fifth Drybar in the D.C. area. Drybar pioneered the trend of having adult beverages at salons, which required an update to Montgomery County and Maryland's archaic liquor laws, which became known as "the Drybar bill" when it passed in Annapolis.

Hair Design Zone opens at Rockville Town Square

Hair Design Zone opened yesterday at Rockville Town Square. The hair salon replaces Hair Cuttery, but no one will confuse the two.

As I previously reported, owner Juan Ma is bringing her experience from top salons in Japan to Rockville. Serving both male and female clients, HDZ offers popular salon products, but also a full line of Japan's premiere Milbon brand.

Something else you won't find at your typical neighborhood salon - kimono dressing.

Visit their website for a full list of services, products and prices.
