Bank with drive-thru proposed for site of shuttered Rockville supermarket

A bank branch with a drive-thru has been proposed for the former Meixin Supermarket location at 460 Hungerford Drive in Rockville. It's interesting to see another Town Center Phase II property going to a low-density, traditional automobile-oriented MD 355 use. Their application has been deemed incomplete by planning staff, however, so there may be at least a brief delay in this moving forward.

  1. By my count there are six banks within walking distance of this proposed bank. Mainly financial institutions will built these temporary locations as holding facilities for future development. But, there has got to be a breaking point for how many a location can hold before it becomes obvious that development is slowing, or something is amiss.

  2. That property has been sitting vacant for years. Who owns it and why let it crumble so long? Hell aren’t the shopping carts still chained up outside?

  5. Correct, probably half a dozen banks in walking distance. Let's hope they know what they're doing. But at this point, anything is better than the ugly eyesore that exists.

  6. At least build it a couple stories up! This is town center after all. Have we learned nothing from recent business failures? Need more density!

  7. Speaking of construction updates, there was a ground breaking yesterday for a senior housing project (146 units) at 45 W Gude Drive. Were you aware of this major development.

    1. I'm aware it's happening. Was not invited to the groundbreaking, but it's not really an exciting project for most of my readers anyway.

  8. Sour grapes. Sounds like you are trying to rationalize not being invited. You got scooped and ignored.

    1. 8:38: I saw no other reports about it, and I don't know who would give a rat's ass about it anyway. It's a bad Abbott and Costello routine where SocialNorm asks me a leading question, and then an "Anonymous" comments follows my answer quickly with snarky insults and bullying.

Just wanted to see if it would happen again, and it did. I'm answering questions in good faith to help readers, and then am attacked for doing so. Sad!
