Signs of Barnes & Noble arriving at Congressional Plaza, Modern Market closed

Tenants are coming and going at Congressional Plaza. Barnes & Noble has posted "Coming Soon" signage in front of its future space at the shopping center on Rockville Pike. The bookstore will open in 2020.

Meanwhile, Modern Market has closed at Congressional. It seems to have been a victim of Montgomery County's anti-business policies and moribund economy, as its Bethesda location also closed, and Modern Markets outside the County remain open.

  2. I'll be sad when the larger Montrose Crossing B&N closes. These smaller stores don't have as much stuff.

    I can't complain..glad to still have B&N at all!

  3. The big picture is actually about Federal Realty's business model getting hit hard by the Retail Apocalypse as well as by Peak Restaurant. But don't expect Dyer to stray from his rants about the "MoCo Cartel".

    1. 1:09: "Peak restaurant" is the economic equivalent of Chicago, Baltimore and D.C. blaming their murder rates on "guns." Meanwhile, those same guns are somehow not causing crime to the same degree in cities that don't have corrupt government machines running them, protected by massive voter fraud.

Mysteriously, "Peak Restaurant" hasn't stopped D.C. from sweeping the restaurant awards, and Northern VA from wiping the floor with Montgomery County in economic development.

What's different? Like Chicago and Baltimore, the corrupt MoCo cartel.

  5. I think Modern Market closed because it was just not the right restaurant there. The other restaurants in that same shopping center are doing fine. I live within walking distance, I would always see Modern Market never full or really busy at all. Their food was good but priced a little higher than the other restaurants near it. Also the menu was sort of hard to figure out sometimes which doesn't help. I think this is just a result of the American palates changing and also there is a large Asian population in Rockville that would not pick a Modern American restaurant as their first food option.

    1. 6:22: I also think their menu was a bit limited, and perhaps too health-focused for Americans who actually tend to prefer The Cheesecake Factory over organic chicken breast and bean sprouts when they dine out.
