More "signs" of Barnes & Noble moving to Congressional Plaza in Rockville

Barnes & Noble won't be moving from Montrose Crossing to Congressional Plaza for more than another year. But their first "Coming Soon" signage has already gone up at their future space. Barnes & Noble is currently scheduled to downsize into this new format store in the summer of 2020.

Five Below to move up Rockville Pike

Five Below, the $5-or-less discount store located at Federal Plaza on Rockville Pike, is planning to move "just up the Pike." Their new space will be at the Congressional North shopping center, right next to the new Aldi grocery store. 

Teel Construction is the contractor for the fit-out of the new store, and work is now underway. 1503 Rockville Pike will be the store's new address.

Mattress Warehouse to move at Metro Pike Center in Rockville

Metro Pike Center has finally found a tenant for the long-vacant Jennifer Convertibles space at 11520-A Rockville Pike. Mattress Warehouse has signed a lease with property owner Saul Centers for the space. Construction is just getting underway inside the future mattress showroom. Mattress Warehouse currently has a larger existing store at Metro Pike Center, at 11550 Rockville Pike.

Barnes & Noble Rockville store moving to Congressional Plaza (Photos)

Barnes & Noble will be moving its Rockville store from Montrose Crossing to Congressional Plaza next year. Federal Realty, which owns both shopping centers, has confirmed the move. This explains the recent relocations of several tenants at the shopping center from the wing on the north side of the property, which is where Barnes & Noble will be located.

What hasn't been announced yet is that the new Congressional Plaza location will be one of Barnes & Noble's new format stores, similar to the one it is opening at the Mosaic District in Northern Virginia. These stores are smaller in size, while still offering a cafe for customers unlike competitor Amazon Books at Federal Realty's Bethesda Row property.

Stein Sperling moving to more-prominent Rockville location

The law offices of Stein Sperling Bennett De Jong Driscoll will soon be moving to a much more high-profile location in Rockville. Currently located on W. Middle Lane, the firm is about to relocate to a newer office building on Wootton Parkway. Their sign was just installed atop the building, and I can report it could be seen heading southbound on I-270. It's now one of the sharper and more prominent signs along the interstate in Montgomery County.

Congressional Plaza Lebanese Taverna temporarily closes ahead of move

Lebanese Taverna has temporarily closed at Congressional Plaza, as the restaurant prepares to move to the other wing of the shopping center on Rockville Pike. Its new location is a bit smaller, and the menu will be a bit simpler, featuring a condensed selection of their most popular items. The new Lebanese Taverna will be next to Modern Market. Their Rockville Town Square location at 115-A Gibbs Street remains open for business if you can't wait for your favorite Lebanese Taverna meal.

Lebanese Taverna, Chico's moving at Congressional Plaza

Lebanese Taverna and Chico's are moving at Congressional Plaza on Rockville Pike. Both stores have new spaces under construction at the shopping center, while the original locations continue to operate. The new Lebanese Taverna space will be by Modern Market..

Ourisman Chevrolet moving inventory into new Rockville dealership (Photos)

Inventory is beginning to move south from Ourisman Rockmont Chevrolet into their new location at Wintergreen Plaza in Rockville. Several Corvettes, a Camaro and a Volt are among the cars already in place. The existing dealership site at 15301 N. Frederick Road is currently on the market for lease.

Ourisman Rockmont Chevrolet's new dealership location in Wintergreen Plaza on Rockville Pike looks just about ready to open. The furniture and artwork are already in the showroom, with the latter depicting some of the most famous lines and designs in Chevy history.

We're about a month past when Ourisman had originally planned to have moved down from its existing dealership location, at 15301 N. Frederick Road, but the logistics of the move must be enormous.

Rockville Florist has left its 785-C Rockville Pike store location for its new address, 12162 Darnestown Road in Gaithersburg. Montgomery Village Florist is at that location, so it appears the name Rockville Florist is most likely not going to survive. It wouldn't make sense anyway, as the store is no longer within Rockville.

There appears to be a mass exodus from Acqua Nails in Rockville Town Square. According to a sign posted at the nail spa at 100 Gibbs Street, the manager and staff are moving a block north to Amber Door Day Spa at 275 N. Washington Street. The phone number is moving with them also: 301-838-8599.

Montgomery County DCHA moving to new headquarters in Rockville Monday

The Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs is moving. On Monday, the DHCA will open its new office at 1401 Rockville Pike, on the 4th floor. Their current office is at 100 Maryland Avenue.

Affordable housing, community development and code enforcement are among the responsibilities of this County agency.

Ourisman Rockmont Chevrolet expected to move to Wintergreen Plaza by November

Construction on the future Ourisman Rockmont Chevrolet dealership at Wintergreen Plaza in Rockville continues, and it's now larger than the renderings suggested. The moving schedule is starting to firm up, as well. A source at the dealership says they will likely have completed their move by this November.

Here's the interesting twist: One might expect the land the dealership currently sits on at 15301 N. Frederick Road to go up for sale, potentially opening up a prime redevelopment opportunity at a major crossroads. Instead, the land is now for lease by Avison Young.

Will the landmark giant U.S. flag make the move south, as well? Stay tuned.

Fleming's Ultimate Garage making the ultimate move on Rockville Pike (Photos)

One of my personal favorite businesses along Rockville Pike, Fleming's Ultimate Garage, is moving. Their new location will be at 660 Loftstrand Lane, in the Southlawn industrial area. This is a decidedly lower-profile spot than their 1400 Rockville Pike location, but hopefully as a specialty business their clientele are willing to go a bit further off the main roads to find them.

Right now, it's hard to miss the '92 Chevy monster truck for sale out in front of the current showroom.

PIER 1 OPENING IN PIKE CENTER (PHOTO)

The new Rockville location of Pier 1 will be in the Pike Center, at Rockville Pike (MD 355) and Bou Avenue. Pier 1 was forced to close its old location at 1590 Rockville Pike, after being displaced by a pending "town center"-sized mixed use project. That project is also forcing Fuddruckers and other businesses out of their existing locations.

Currently, the store is filled with boxes and crates. But a banner out front says, "Open Soon." The lights were on inside Saturday afternoon.

AT&T STORE MOVING UP ROCKVILLE PIKE FROM MID-PIKE PLAZA (PHOTOS)

The AT&T Store in Mid-Pike Plaza is moving up Rockville Pike. Its new location will open on Friday, November 22, at 12147 Rockville Pike, next door to T.G.I. Friday's.

MINI OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY DEALERSHIP CLOSED IN ROCKVILLE, MOVING TO GAITHERSBURG (PHOTOS)

The Mini of Montgomery County dealership is moving way up the Pike to Gaithersburg. A new, larger Mini dealership will open today at
621 N. Frederick Avenue.

Meanwhile, the Rockville location has been cleared out, with the exception of 2 Minis, and will now become the Passport Premier Auto dealership.
